So James Cameron did not actually took on the form of an Avatar body, but he did something even better, that he himself went down and lent the Amazon natives a pair of ears.

Sigourney Weaver (Dr Grace Augustine), and Joel David Moore (Norm Spellman), both accompanied the critically acclaimed director and it shows how much of an impact that the Avatar movie has had in their lives, and to a certain extent some of ours as well.

The plight of the natives are being planned to be shot in a 3D “experiential” documentary, much to the chagrin of local authorities who were quick to quip along the lines of ‘Why are they (the movie people) here? You don’t see us trying to make a movie eh? That’s right, because we don’t meddle in other’s businesses.’

On face value, yes, the authorities seems to have weight in their words, but in retrospect of the potential attrition of one of the worlds’ largest rainforest ecosystem left in this era, I say that there’s certainly some salvation that needs to be done.

‘Bows, arrows and gunfire’ would probably be exchanged in meeting rooms, under air-conditioned roofs and velvet chairs, but when the strong is preying on the weak, someone needs to stand up for them.

I’m pretty sure that JC and Co might not be able to stop the current deforestation of some 500km2, but at the very least, it’ll make the businesses that go about cutting away the earth’s life support systems into thinking more than twice about it.

Nevertheless, JC’s already an instant hit among the Xingu natives. I wonder if he’ll learn and speak their mother tongue as well.

Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out where my vote goes to for the 82nd Academy Award show.

I had the opportunity to catch the movie again this afternoon in town, and there weren’t that many people in the theatre then.

Considering that it’s now in its 13th week, the half-filled theatre was quite a surprise and a joy as well, as it meant that there’ll be less spoilers at the venue.

I can’t stress how irritating it is when you’re all focused on a movie and a phone starts to ring, or a baby wails incessantly, or a group of adults starts chitty-chattering. It was a fullfilling engagement this afternoon, as the movie experience went by smoothly.

Back home, my sister asked me what was so good about this movie, that compelled me into repeat viewings till I lost count.

Maybe it’s the lush vegetation and rich forest canopy, accompanied with the floating hills and disappearing waterfalls, that lures me into a sense of longing for a visit to distant lands. The sight of the wondrous creatures and majestic beasts are a lovely feast for the eyes as well.

Maybe it’s the story of a man’s journey in search of redemption, or salvation for a life that’s in danger of fading away from a sense of purpose, and a sense of being needed. The overcoming of struggles and obstacles are life lessons for me. It’s a story about fighting alongside each other for what you believe in, and not succumbing meekly in the face of adversity.

Maybe it’s the change of heart, where hatred is merely temporary and faith is permanent, when an certain race takes in a foreigner and makes him one of their own. Even if each other’s sight brings curse and mortality at first. When one has the ability to change and adapt, more can be achieved and reaped.

Maybe it’s the technological advancement in the movie-making department, where every scene tempts me to burst into the silver screen to peek what lies beyond the sides of the screens. The 3D effect fools me into thinking that I’m not watching a movie, but rather looking through a window, and me sitting inside this bubble that’s floating around that alien world. It’s very difficult to resist thoughts of “what if I peer my head forward, maybe I can see more?’

Maybe it’s the sleek editing, both in audio and visual departments, with both seamlessly working in tandem to mesmerise my senses. This is the 13th week that the movie is playing and with that number probably being the number of times I’ve watched it in 3D theatres, it has yet to get boring. The pacing is perfect, the dialogues are intriguing and the storyline, even though predictable, is gripping.

Make no mistake that James Cameron masterpiece is a joy to experience, and if movies were made to grind out results within a wrestling ring, a la Royal Rumble, you’d be forgiven if the referee blew the whistle early on, simply because Avatar’s a cut above the rest, a few gears higher than the best of the rest, and for sure, a certain knockout king of the ring.

So what makes it so good and will it really win this year’s Oscar’s Best Picture?

Well, one thing for sure, there’s more than $2.5 Billion worth of reasons for it to be on the receiving end of that honor.

Btw, credit should be given too to the other Best Picture’s more-than-worthy nominees, but seriously there’s really only one clear winner, and that’s for a movie that’s touched and changed more lives than anyone can recently remember.

And myself, I can barely remember any movie that’s been, for the lack of better words, perfect in all sense.

Though I’m disappointed that Avatar’s recent time slots in my local theatres seem to signal for the end of its run here, the non-US’ box office continues it’s strong run in theatres worldwide.

ABC News Entertainment reports staggering non-US box office receipts, and with the Oscar race hotting up and coming soon, much hype will surround the film than before.

If my memory serves me right, other than Titanic there really wasn’t any movie that’s racked up as much consecutives as our film here.

We’ve now witnessed Avatar break Titanic’s $$$ intake at almost every box office, and there’s no denying the joy (and disappointment) that so many people have experienced, but what makes it endure such a long run?

Is it the seductive and strong yet vulnerable Navi people?

Could it be the battle against oppression as depicted by Jake Sully?

Or does the massive landscape and free terrains lends itself to the film’s success?

Whatever it may be, hoardes of fansites and fanforums have been spawned throughout the webiverse and millions more are affected by it.

So will Avatar land the Best Picture at the oscars?

Well, does it really matter?

Records have already been broken and its bar continues to be raised with every passing day, no matter who wins the award — and that’s already a testament unto itself.

No Avatar DVDs!

At least not till November, according to Avatar’s director James Cameron, saying the DVD won’t hit stores until November, MTV reports.

I’m not sure about you but, as rumour has it, it’s going to be a bare bones DVD movie with a little bit of extra footages, and I’m not going to be that happy with such a DVD.

I’d rather wait out, with eager anticipation, and pay more (even double or triple) for a special edition DVD with super special interviews, super secret candid footages, bloopers and lots more candies than to pay for a regular bare bones DVD.

But for fans of the movie, and when it stops its run at the theatres, this DVD launch is definitely going to be in a much better quality than handheld cam copies eh?

First off, sorry that this topic had to come up a little late here.

So are you one of those guys that goes on and on about how Avatar isn’t really the biggest/highest grossing box office movie of all time, inflation adjusted?

If you are, then I pity for your myopic vision and biased correlations.

I mean, simply using google to search for ‘Avatar+Inflation+Adjusted’ will bring you a host of results, enough to make me grief for their sorry, pitiable, myopic condition.

My argument try looking at it from a viewpoint of a long-distance runner.

Say, someone who ran an event completed it in a record time this year, and I mean FREAKING RECORD TIME, ever.

Then someone comes along and ‘wittily’ comments, “Hey, that achievement’s nothing, compared to someone who won it years ago, because of factors today versus factors yesterday (as in a simplified argument in the context of ‘inflation adjustment’).

This current athlete’s have the comfort of better performing equipments and more knowledgeable nutritionists, when compared to the runners of yesterdays.

Apart from sounding like a really sore loser, this ‘witty commentor, well just sounds like a lost cause in trying to attack the achievements of a champion.

And right now Avatar, is more than just a champion.

Enough from Zahelu.com, now read this: Lens Archibald’s Why Do You Care on the biggest movie of the month, you gotta scroll about 2 pages down to read his comments though.

Will There Be An Avatar 2?

Overheard from Marketsaw’s exclusive early word on an Avatar 2, if that’s what it’s going to be called, is that it (the sequel) will probably debut, within those 3D glasses that you wore on your last trip to the imax/3d theatres, in about 4 years time.

Here’s to hoping for much more comfortable glasses in those years to come.

So you might have heard reports of preparations for a sequel to your no. 1 movie of all time as being underway, but that’s just inaccurate.

According to the above article, it’s not yet underway, and that it’s just only being prepared.

Interestingly, the major stars of the show have all given us their assertion by lending words of support for a possible role in a sequel, so quite possibly a sequel is not so secret after all.

Also it’s no secret that Avatar will dethrone Titanic off the worldwide box office takings, soaring past the $2Billion mark, thus adding more nudges towards James Cameron for a deserving sequel, one which he himself has not yet denied.

So what will the premise be, and will it still be on Pandora, or one of Polyphemus’ moon?

Marketsaw’s predicting a full blown war movie off of Pandora, based on reliable sources but we’ll take it with a pinch of salt,

In any case, head over this interesting discussion about the possible scenarios that an Avatar 2 might take, and perhaps it might whet your Pandorian appetite a little more, while we see just how accurate these rumours and speculations will be in time to come.

More glowing flora and fauna, and flying critters please..

I may not understand a single character on www.avatarchina.com, but I sure know a Neytiri or a Jake when I see one.

Apparently the movie, its 3D version is such a huge hit that China theatre operators are forced to remove the 2D version from cinemas (and make way for other movies) and run only the 3D version.

In a way, it’s probably only going to bump up the movie’s box office gross takings from the massive country alone, which in turn should more or less allow it to invade Titanic’s throne in the worldwide box office sales.

So if you’re Chinese and looking for a dedicated Chinese website about all things Avatar, rejoice.

Avatar Wows China Movie-Goers

Can’t wait for Avatar to steal the no.2 spot, if not no.1, on the worldwide box office sales?

No worries, and just as quoted in Roland Emerich’s  2012, “Trust the Chinese to get things done“.

There’s no shortage of movie goers there eh?

No wonder our stars here pose gleefully, but I wonder if James Cameron feels the same.

Ahh, yes he does. That wry, shy smile couldn’t hide his joy.

No, Mr James, we know you’re just as ecstatic as our main stars.

Ooh, nice dress, and isn’t Neytiri, I mean Zoe Saldana lovely?

Are they discussing about the plot for Avatar 2, but seriously, will there even be an Avatar 2?

I’m sure that Chinese won’t be too concerned with the question of when or how a sequel would be like.

Let’s just leave James to muse that on his own for now.
